Charity Wings is more than just an art center, it’s an artistic portal. Just walking into Charity Wings gives any art lover, crafter, creator, designer, etc. the sense of belonging and pride in what they love. It has more than stock piles of supplies at any patron’s disposal, it has endless amounts of inspiration. If someone were to ask “Why is Charity Wings Creative?” an easier question would be “How is it NOT creative’- which would still be a crazy hard question to answer! Don’t be fooled by it’s cold, metal, warehouse exterior- if buildings had veins, you would be sure this place would have creativity flowing through them. Right down to the volunteers that keep the place going, the people who use it, the administrators, the sponsors, etc., this place is nothing but creative! There is not a supply you won’t find here or inspiration that will not latch itself onto you- not to mention there is always something to do! What makes it even better is that it is a charity that is dedicated to bringing art to communities in an affordable and manageable manner!
Speaking of creativity latching onto people, here is a piece I made as an example piece for one of the Party Arty Nights where we upcycled T-Shirts into different things, in this case, a no-sew infinity scarf! I loved mine because I am an avid costume maker and love to make things that are inspired by different things, as well as having them be functional and wearable. I was able to give this old white T-Shirt a new twist by using sprayable fabric paint and water to give it all a Red, White and Blue gradient before making a little fabric embellishment. I’m sure you can tell I was inspired by Marvel’s Captain America for this piece! It just goes to show what you can make when you use your imagination and your inspirations! Come visit Charity Wings to see this piece and so many others- get inspired and come create your own as well!
